Just Call Me a Sucker

A few (2 or 3) weeks ago, Lucy bought a sewing pattern for $1 with her own money.  It was for making princess costumes for your 18" doll.  When she made this purchase, I warned her that I had no time to help.  We had a costume party and a Disney trip coming up and lots of school (always) there was just NO WAY that I would have time to help her with this project.  She looked sad and wistful, but bought the pattern anyway.  I looked at her firmly, she replied, "I just really want Felicity to have a Halloween costume."   I thought, "Well, at least she'll learn from this, not to buy things she doesn't have time to use."

whatever....

cause, see, Mama's a sucker.  And it wasn't too long before I started pulling the pattern out and cutting it up, washing and ironing fabric.  Seeing her stare at that pattern was just too much for me.

She was THRILLED when she saw me working on it.  "Don't get too excited.  There's NO WAY I'm going to have it done before Halloween."  She just grinned at me....and bounced.

Then Iris ambled up..."whatcha sewing?"

"An Ariel costume for Felicity."

(silence)  "Wow.  I really wish Octavia could have had a costume.  That would have been so neat."

she sighs and walks away.

I notice that we happen to have a couple yards of light blue silky stuff.  hmmmm.

And so I neglect all the other things that REALLY NEED to be done to sew costumes for DOLLS.  DOLLS, PEOPLE.  The whole time I sewed and sewed....I thought to myself how ridiculous I was being and how much better my time would be spent doing other things....LIKE PACKING.

Stephen would walk in and watch me and sigh.  He would remind me of all that needed to be done.  But he didn't get mad.  He even helped me gather the top of a petticoat.

Lucy knew I was sewing for her doll, but Iris had NO clue I was sewing for hers too.

This morning they came down to this....

right on time.  Of course, I only had a few hours to pack for a week at Disney.  I'll let you know what I forgot.

But even so, I didn't feel quite so ridiculous when I saw their faces :)

Costume Party

since we're not going to be home for any costume activities, the kids talked me into having a costume party (on my birthday)...here's what we threw together...

A way to big crock pot of chicken noodle soup, 30 pumpking muffins and cut up pineapple.  Amy brought pineapple casserole and I ate way tooo much!

my kids are ready for their friends!!

the "big" girls...a princess, a mermaid and a colonial girl

Stephen torturing poor Ada..

Simba Teva...

Hiccup Josh...

The "little" girls...

For some reason I didn't get a shot of most of the boys...but here they are at the table....

We're Doing Costumes a Little Early This Year

Our Reformation celebrations are starting a little early this year since we're going on a VERY exciting vacation soon!  Yipeee!

Anyway...here's what the cute little urchins decided to be THIS year...they all kind of surprised me a little.

I had informed them they may not be getting costumes this year since we may not be home to do anything costume related.  So...Nena came to the rescue and let them each pick out a costume :)

Lucy picked first...mermaid...

she decided for a different hairstyle the next time she wore it....

Then Clyde....(ninja...again :)...

Last, Iris picked.....a bumble bee....

the ninja and the bee (just couldn't leave this one out)

Tractor Show

Went to the tractor show w/ Grandad and Grandmom today.

The kids LOVE this every year...and every year it gets bigger and bigger.

This year, they actually all worked up the nerve to do the potato sack race....

Here they are holding their sack race ribbons (every participant got one) and eating cotton candy.

We watched blacksmith and antique washing/wringing machine demonstrations..

Lucy learned to play a 1 string can banjo....

They rode in the barrel train...each barrel was painted to resemble a different kind of tractor.

We stopped to eat beans, cornbread and cookies.  Iris ADORES beans, and would be happy to eat them for every meal!

Lucy decided that her little bit of money was burning a hole in her pocket and bought a bandana.  Then the other two followed suit....

Clyde has been saving for quite a while and has managed to save a good bit of money.  He sunk $25 into this scented stuffed lion.  He got to pick what scent went into it...so he is now the proud owner of a 'camu-camu' scented lion named Roarbert.

Iris is most covetous, since she DESPERATELY wants a 'paradise punch' scented pink pig.  Lucy just wants some peaches a la mode scented room spray.  Who knew we would spend so long in a Scentsy booth?

Oh yeah, and we got to see the "Clampett's Truck"  :)  Clyde adores Granny so this was very exciting.  Cause, "She's so Ilarious!"

It was all LOTS of fun!

More Boy/Girl Differences

This is what my daughters do on the playground:

They take care of Baby Octavia...

Walk w/ her together while swinging her between them...

push her down the slide....

swing her..

This is what Clyde does....

They all just make me smile :)
