What Can I Say? We Love Cade's Cove.

We go as often as we can to Cade's Cove.  I know that it's the most visited part of Smoky Mountain National Park.  But, it's still my favorite, because it seems to have the most wildlife. (Certainly the most bears!)  Also, it allows us to hang out with Uncle Norman!!

Traditionally, we like to start out with breakfast at the Back Porch Restaurant.

First we stopped at a cabin.  There are several old/reconstructed structures in Cade's Cove.  This one, I hadn't been to, since Iris was one.

The kids looked at the fireplace like it was an alien entity.
Iris- "What is this?"
Clyde- "It's this really cool thing they used to have a LONG time ago, called a 'FIREPLACE'!"
Me-  (thinking) Do my children seriously not know what a fireplace is???

We also LOVE to play in the creek on Sparks Lane.  We have spent many hours here!

Lu & Clyde enjoy 'fishing' and splashing.  Iris enjoys balancing on fallen logs.

Always like the mill.

But our favorite part is riding with the trunk open and watching for animas!  We only saw ONE DEER!!  In Cade's Cove, this is unheard of.  We saw many turkey.

AND we saw FIVE black bear!!!

Uncle Norman helping the kids see the bear better :)

  2. Oh yes, they're excellent climbers! That's why climbing a tree to get away from a bear doesn't work ;) But it's one thing to read that they're good climbers ... actually seeing them up that tree was pretty crazy. You can't tell from the picture how high up they were. The trees were swaying from the weight, but the bears didn't care.
